The day starts outside your hotel after midnight. It is about an hour north from Ubud, two from Canggu or Seminyak, up to Kintamani. The island is quiet the whole way — and the crowds you were picturing are already behind you by the time you start walking.
From the base camp to the summit is roughly two hours on foot. The first stretch runs through the treeline, over soil and roots. Higher up the ground turns to volcanic sand and broken rock; it is not hard, but it asks for patience. At 1,717 metres, when you reach the crater rim, the sky is only just beginning to open — first the silhouette of Mount Agung, then Lake Batur, then the sea of cloud.
Nothing is rushed at the top. Breakfast cooks in the volcano’s own steam while you sit and watch the light change. On the way down the group sets its own pace; the descent is quicker than the climb and most guests are back at the hotel before noon.

Around two hours of climbing at a moderate pace. You do not need to be a hiker; the guide sets the pace by the slowest walker.
It can be 28°C at sea level and 10–14°C with wind at the summit. A thin windbreaker makes all the difference.
If the cloud is low, the sunrise may not appear. Free cancellation up to 48 hours; if we cancel for weather, you are refunded in full.
