Step off the island for a day.
Nusa Penida lies half an hour southeast of Bali by fast boat. You leave Sanur early; the moment you cross, the landscape changes completely — instead of green terraces there are sheer limestone cliffs with light-shot turquoise water beneath them.
The west of the island holds Kelingking, Broken Beach, Angel’s Billabong and Paluang; the east has Diamond Beach and Atuh. The roads are narrow and rough, and one way between the two sides takes over an hour. We decide together in the morning which side the day covers, based on the sea and the group’s pace.
This is a long day — it starts at 07:00 and runs close to 19:00. In return you see Bali’s harshest and emptiest landscapes. A private car and driver stay with you throughout, so you are not tied to a coach schedule.

Kelingking’s T-Rex ridge and the natural arch at Broken Beach are the island’s two best-known points. Both are on the west side and fit into one morning.

If the swell is up, boat times shift and, rarely, the day is cancelled. We tell you first thing in the morning.
Island roads are narrow and rough. One way between the two coasts takes over an hour, which is why the route is set in the morning.
The stairway down to the beach is very steep and has no shade. Most guests stay at the viewpoint; going down and back up takes about two hours.
