Wellness · Ubud
Rice fields, morning light.
About the experience
The shala is a wooden platform north of Ubud looking out over terraced rice fields. It is open on three sides — so what you see through the practice is not a mirror but the valley itself. In the morning session the light comes across the fields; in the evening it comes from behind.
The flow sits between hatha and vinyasa: synced to the breath, slow and gentle. The first twenty of the seventy-five minutes are breath and warm-up, the rest is flow, closing with ten minutes of savasana. The teacher shows an easy and an advanced variation of each pose and you choose between them.
Open to all levels, genuinely. Never having done yoga is not a problem; the group is kept small so the teacher can correct individually. Mats, blocks and straps are at the shala.
“No mirror — just the valley.”
Highlights
Not a closed studio. What you look at through the practice is Ubud’s terraced valley.
A pace between hatha and vinyasa. Each pose is shown in an easy and an advanced variation; the choice is yours.
Twelve people at most. The teacher can move mat to mat and correct — which doesn’t happen in a crowded class.

Good to know
All levels, and genuinely so. Even if you have never practised, the teacher shows the easy variation of every pose.
The morning session is cooler and the valley is misty. The evening session catches the sunset and the light is warmer. Same price.
Ubud is humid. The morning session is noticeably more comfortable; in the evening you’ll want more water and a towel.
