The route runs one way — you pick the direction

Vietnam is long and narrow on the map, and the climate, the food and the pace all change between north and south. That is why a Vietnam route is almost always built one way: you start in the north and work down, or the reverse.

Which direction suits you depends on your dates and how many nights you have. We build the route around that — including the domestic flights, the train legs, and where you stay two nights rather than three.

Where to start

We don’t print prices because every route is built differently. These are here to give you a shape — tell us which one you lean towards and we’ll go from there.

Hanoi'de akşam trafiği ve sokak hayatı The classic

North to south — Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh

The most fluid direction if you want to see the country end to end. Old town and bay in the north, lantern-lit Hoi An in the middle, river and city in the south.

Sample itinerary

  1. DAY 1Hanoi — the old quarterA walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, street food in the Old Quarter and a water-puppet show in the evening.
  2. DAY 2Out to the bayAcross to Ha Long or the quieter Lan Ha bay; a night aboard, with kayaking or a swim in the late afternoon.
  3. DAY 3Fly to central VietnamA morning flight to Da Nang and on to Hoi An. The old town and the riverside under lantern light in the evening.
Hoi An'da gökyüzüne salınan fenerler The short route

Central Vietnam — mostly Hoi An

With a week, settling into one region beats racing the length of the country. Hoi An is the easiest base for it.

Sample itinerary

  1. DAY 1Hoi An — the old townYellow walls, tailors and the Japanese Bridge. Floating a lantern on the river in the evening.
  2. DAY 2Rice fields and the coastBicycles through the fields and a basket boat in the morning; free time on An Bang beach in the afternoon.
  3. DAY 3My Son and Hai VanThe My Son ruins early, before the crowds. A stop at the Hai Van pass on the way back.
Sapa'da teraslı pirinç tarlaları Nature-heavy

The northern mountains — Sapa and the bays

If you want landscape and walking more than cities, staying north makes sense. Terraced fields, hill villages and a night on the bay.

Sample itinerary

  1. DAY 1A night in HanoiA late arrival and a short evening walk in the Old Quarter. An early start the next morning.
  2. DAY 2Sapa — the terracesThe mountain road to Sapa; a three-hour walk between villages in the afternoon, along the terraced fields.
  3. DAY 3Ninh BinhA rowed sampan between the karst towers; the Mua cave steps and the valley view in the afternoon.

FAQ

Common questions

For the full north-to-south route, 12–14 nights is comfortable. With 7–8 nights, settling into one region is far more enjoyable — we usually suggest central Vietnam.
No. You book the international ticket. We plan which flight fits the route and how the domestic flight and train legs line up. Avo Travels does not sell or issue tickets.
It depends on the climate. The north can be cool and misty in winter; the south is warm year-round. Tell us your dates and we’ll say which direction works better.
Not our own team the way we do in Bali. We plan the route around your request; communication and planning run through us in Turkish or English. Local operations run through partners we choose.
